Cervical cancer treatment : informations and documentation from ECCA

Cervical cancer treatment depends on the stage reached by the disease. The stage of a cancer describes its size, depth of invasion, and how far it has spread. But there are other factors that may influence the development of the cervical cancer : the age, the general health, the individual circumstances, and the preferences.

The patient must be aware of all the risks and side effects of the various treatments before making a decision.

Methods of cervical cancer treatment :

The 3 main methods related to cervical cancer treatment are surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy. Sometimes the best treatment approach uses 2 or more of these methods.

If a cure is not possible, the goal may be to remove or destroy as much of the cancer as possible to prevent the tumor in the cervix from growing, spreading, or returning for as long as possible. Sometimes treatment is aimed at relieving suffering. This is called palliative treatment.
